This prompt is based on the song title, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For by U2. What are you looking for? Are others looking for it too? Why haven’t you found it? Are you sure it exists? What will change when you find it? What will happen if you never find it? Will you ever give up and stop looking? Express this situation in a poem.

August 20 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Love and Happiness by Al Green. Are you in love? Are you happy? If so, write about the things that make you feel this way. If you aren’t in love or if you’re unhappy, write about the cause and what you plan on doing (if anything) to change the situation. What would it take to bring love and happiness into your life?

August 18 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley. Write about a suspicious character you know about or know personally. This is an opportunity to pretend you are a detective. What clues led you to your belief about this person? Perhaps you’re suspicious about your partner or spouse’s activities. Write about your suspicions and the consequences should you confront them.

This prompt is based on the song title, Crazy by Patsy Cline. Write about the people, places or things that drive you crazy. Include dialogue between you and the person or object that causes your insanity. Be as outrageous as you can be. This is an opportunity to make crazy,  funny.

What changes are you anticipating and how do they make you feel? What can you do to make the inevitable transition easier or smoother? What conversations do you need to have? What actions do you need to take. Write a scene where two characters work through the situation you are about to face.

This prompt is based on the song title, My Generation by The Who. Write about your generation. What makes it unique? Do you fit the stereotype or not? In fifty years, what do you think people will say about your generation? In 100 years, what consequences do you think the inaction, action, or reaction of your generation will have on the global community?

This prompt is based on the song title, Respect by Aretha Franklin. We all like to be respected, but sometimes we aren’t. When was the last time you were disrespected? When was the last time you disrespected someone? Were the actions justified? How did being disrespected make you feel? Perhaps you need to apologize. If so, write a scene where your apology is not accepted.
