March 15 Writing Prompt: Injustice

There is so much injustice in the world that it’s difficult to focus on one cause. Write a Letter to the Editor about an injustice that is occurring in your community. Be sure to include a solution to the problem. Send the letter and see what happens.

March 14 Writing Prompt: Aging, Fading Beauty

For women in particular, the loss of their looks can be devastating. Imagine what it would be like to be a “beauty queen” who is stuck in the past or an action figure who loses his or her super powers. Write dialogue about what they say after being rejected for a part in a movie.

March 13 Writing Prompt: Luck

Some people think the number 13 is unlucky. Has this number played a role in your life? Was it lucky or unlucky? Is superstition a character flaw or a useful attribute? Write a scene where Lady Luck either appears to save the day or disappears.

March 12: Writing Prompt–Man or Woman vs Nature

Imagine you are lost in the wilderness and your cell phone is dead. A winter storm is coming in and it’s freezing cold or your plane crashed and you are in the middle of the desert without water. You desperately want to live, but are afraid help won’t come in time. Write at least 1200 words about this situation. What attributes do you need to survive this ordeal, assuming you survive?

March 11 Writing Prompt: Death

We’re all going to die, but many people don’t like to talk or think about it. Imagine an ideal death, then write a scene where the ideal death happens to one of your characters. You define ideal.

March 10: Everlasting Love

Do you believe in everlasting love? What about love at first site? What about past life connections? Write a scene where two strangers meet and fall in love.

March 9: Daylight Saving Time

Write a scene or a short story about Daylight saving Time. If Daylight is a person, what does he or she look like? Do they have super powers and if so, what are they? Why did Time need to be saved?  Make up something wild and crazy. Submit it to a fiction writing contest.

March 8: Writing Prompt — Simplicity

Often life gets complicated and what we want most is simplicity. Write a scene about a complication in your life or in the life of a fictional character. Write that scene without the complication. Which scene is more interesting? Is there beauty in simplicity or is it boring?

March 7 Writing Prompt: Chaos vs Order

Some people thrive on order and others are quite content to live with chaos. In which camp do you reside? Write a scene where someone enters and upends your comfort zone, turning order into chaos or chaos into order simply by pushing a button.

March 6: Writing Prompt

Family can be a blessing and a curse. Which was your family? Has it made you stronger or sent you running to therapy? List five ways your family has affect you and your life. Pick the most important one and write about it.
