August 18 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley. Write about a suspicious character you know about or know personally. This is an opportunity to pretend you are a detective. What clues led you to your belief about this person? Perhaps you’re suspicious about your partner or spouse’s activities. Write about your suspicions and the consequences should you confront them.

August 17 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Crazy by Patsy Cline. Write about the people, places or things that drive you crazy. Include dialogue between you and the person or object that causes your insanity. Be as outrageous as you can be. This is an opportunity to make crazy,  funny.

August 16 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Superstition by Stevie Wonder. Are you superstitious? Do you tremble when a black cat crosses your path or think that walking under a ladder is dangerous? Will a broken mirror result in seven years of bad luck? If you are superstitious, what evidence do you have to support your belief? Write about what superstition means to you.

August 15 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. If there actually was a stairway to heaven, what would it look like and who would greet you at the top? Describe what heaven means to you? Is your heaven here on earth or do you believe you have to die to get there?

August 14 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke. Change can be a good thing, but it can also be frightening. What changes are you anticipating and how do they make you feel? What can you do to make the inevitable transition easier or smoother? What conversations do you need to have? What actions do you need to take. Write a scene where two characters work through the situation you are about to face.

August 13 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, My Generation by The Who. Write about your generation. What makes it unique? Do you fit the stereotype or not? In fifty years, what do you think people will say about your generation? In 100 years, what consequences do you think the inaction, action, or reaction of your generation will have on the global community?

August 12 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Respect by Aretha Franklin. We all like to be respected, but sometimes we aren’t. When was the last time you were disrespected? When was the last time you disrespected someone? Were the actions justified? How did being disrespected make you feel? Perhaps you need to apologize. If so, write a scene where your apology is not accepted.

August 11 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Runaway by Del Shannon. What would you like to run away from? What have you run from? If you ran away, where would you go? Who would you take with you? More importantly, why are you staying if you really would like to leave?

August 10 Writing Prompt:

This prompt is based on the song title, Fat Lip by Sum 41.

Have you ever been punched in the face or punched someone? Better, have you ever wanted to punch someone but managed to control yourself? If you’ve ever had a fat lip or wanted to give one to someone, write about the experience that led you to that tipping point. What emotions were you feeling? What were the consequences of your actions?

Write about someone who is or who thinks they are the toast of the town. What did they do? How does the recognition they receive make you feel? Do they deserve it? Why or why not.What would you have to do to become the toast of the town? Would you want to be in this enviable position?
